T V S 7 0 2 B A S S E M B L Y _____________ _______________ August 22, 1987 The TVS702 has a glass epoxy circuit, with tinned copper traces on each side and solder mask to prevent shorts between the traces. A silk screened legend on the top side labels all compo- nents by component designator. The TVS702 serves as a "mother board" for a TVS701, and adds relay functions, voice synthesis and GE MASTR II (A GE Trademark) control shelf compatability. A small soldering iron at 700 degrees should be used for as- sembly. Rosin core solder only should be used. Careful attention to solder technique is required to avoid cold solder joints and solder bridging. In the assembly steps, component locations are given using the following code (assuming that the board legend is oriented for normal reading): BL=Bottom Left ML=Mid Left TL=Top Left BM=Bottom Middle MM=Middle Middle TM=Top Middle BR=Bottom Right MR=Middle Right TR=Top Right TAKE CARE to read each assembly step completely before starting that step! Assembly steps: (1) Install the SIP female connectors at J1 and J2. MAKE SURE that they are completely inserted - the pins will fit tight- ly into the holes. (2) Carefully insert the 2 IC sockets and solder all pins. MAKE SURE that the keyed end of each socket matches the key shown on the board. At this time, you should decide whether you want to socket the DIP relays at RY0 and RY1 (BL) or solder them to the board. If they are socketed, the piggyback board will not fit snugly onto the other board, but will work. If they are sol- dered in, the piggyback connectors can be completely mated. This can be evaluated by temporarily inserting a socket into one of the relay positions, putting a relay into the socket, and mount- ing the TVS701 board. If you decide to use sockets, install the two 14 pin DIP sockets now at RY0 and RY1. (3) 1K Potentiometers should be mounted at locations R11 (ML), VR4(BR) and R9 (BR). TAKE CARE that the part is oriented with the adjustment screw at the end shown on the board legend. (4) The 10K Potentiometer should be mounted at R10 (TL). TAKE CARE that the part is oriented with the adjustment screw at the end shown on the board legend. (5) Install the PN2222 transistor at Q0(BM). TAKE CARE that transistor case is in the same orientation as shown on the legend. TAKE CARE that you do not inadvertently install the the PN3906 - it has the same package! (6) Install the PN3906 transistor at Q3(BR). TAKE CARE that transistor case is in the same orientation as shown on the legend. TAKE CARE that you do not inadvertently install the the PN2222 - it has the same package! (7) Install Red LED at LE0(TR). TAKE CARE that the longer LED lead is in the right hand hole. Enough lead should ex- tend above the board to allow the LED to be bent parallel to the board and project about 1/8 inch beyond the end of the board. (8) Install the 7808 voltage regulator at IC1(TL). TAKE CARE to orient it as shown on the outline (heat sink to the left). (9) Install the 3.12 Mhz crystal at X0(BM). It should be laid flat against the board in the outline area of the legend. (10) Install the small (.1" lead spacing) .1uF capaci- tors at C0 (BR), C3 (BR), C1 (ML), C2 (TL). (11) Install the 20pf Silver Mica capacitors at C9 and C8 (BR). (12) Install the 10uf electrolytic or tantalum capaci- tors at C6 (BL), C12 (BL), C4 (ML), C5 (ML), C13(TL). TAKE CARE that the positive side of the capacitor (side without stripe) goes in the hole marked "+'. The negative side can go into any of the remaining three holes in the capacitor outline. The extra holes are provided to accomodate capacitors of different shapes. (13) Install the 1 uF miniature tantalum capacitor at C7 (MM). TAKE CARE that the positive end connects to the "+" hole. (14) Install the two .022 disk ceramic capacitors at C10 (TR) and C11 (TR). One lead should go in the bottom hole, the other in the hole second from the top. (15) Use a cut lead from a component as a jumper wire and install it as R15 (ML). (16) Install the PRMA1C05 relay (DPDT) at RY0 (BL). If a socket is not used, solder in the relay. (17) Install the PRMA1A05 relay (DPST) at RY1 (BM). If a socket is not used, solder in the relay. (18) Install the 1N914 diode at CR0 (TR). TAKE CARE that the diode is polarized as shown by the board legend. TAKE CARE that you do not install the ZENER diodes (1N5232B) by mistake. (19) Install the 1N5232B zener diodes at Z0-Z3 (BM). TAKE CARE that the diode is polarized as shown by the board leg- end. TAKE CARE that you do not install the 1N914 diode by mis- take. (20) Install resistors as follows: (BL) R16 - 1 KOhm (ML) R8 - 10 Ohm (BM) R3 - 4.7 KOhm (BM) R12 - 1 KOhm (BM) R17 - 10 KOhm (BR) R0, R1, R13 - 4.7 KOhm (MM) R7 - 510 KOhm (MR) R5, R6 - 33 KOhm (TR) R2 - 510 Ohm (21) Install the IC's into sockets. All sockets are la- beled on the board legend. TAKE CARE to use proper static precau- tions: Before inserting an IC into the board, ground yourself to the board by holding ground traces with one hand. Insert the IC using the other hand. TAKE CARE that now IC leads are bent under the IC or bent outside the socket. The SP0256A-AL2 is installed at IC0 (MR), and the LM386 at IC2 (MR). (22) Install the TVS701 Circuit board on the two SIP connectors. The TVS701 should have the male SIP connectors on the BOTTOM side, and should have a TVS702 version processor in it. This completes the installation of the circuit components.
